Reuse Network Suppliers’ Suite is comprised of a wide variety of businesses who are helping tackle poverty and climate change. Through the services they provide, they support our UK network of charities in providing crucial services to communities across the country.

HYSapientia and AP Taylor, two of our supplier partners, recently joined forces to demonstrate their dedication to creating a positive impact. HYSapientia generously donated ten air fryers to Furniture Plus and Tree of Life, two of our member charities. AP Taylor supported HYSapientia by providing customer support and logistics expertise ensuring the products got to where they were needed. The collaboration also saved helped save the charities money by eliminating the need for staff and fuel costs for the collections.

Supporting our members’ vital work in the community

Our members play a crucial role in supplying low-income households with affordable refurbished or new appliances. The cost-of-living crisis has left many households struggling to make ends meet, with research showing that more than a million in the UK live in appliance poverty. This has led to a surge in demand for affordable goods provided by charities.

HYSapientia’s generous donation is a fantastic boost for the charities and will help them generate vital income to support the work they do in their local communities, as well as providing a safe and energy efficient way of cooking nourishing meals for low-income households.

Here’s a snapshot of the impact these donations have already had on the charities and the communities they serve:

Furniture Plus

Furniture Plus in Fife, Scotland was set up in 2001 to tackle poverty, homelessness, and social exclusion.

Completely self-funded, all surplus income goes back into the community through the purchase of furniture given away free of charge. The charity also provides kitchen packs for people moving into social housing providing those in need with the tools they need to feed themselves.

Last year, 294 local families were helped through the Goodwill Scheme equating to £28,142 worth of goods that were provided for free. Operating from two locations, Furniture Plus support low-income families.

Gregor Cameron from Furniture Life shares an example of the support they have been able to provide for one such family because of HySapientia’s donation:

Helen relocated to a new residence with her three children, seeking refuge from a domestically violent relationship. The trauma from the abusive situation exacerbated Helen’s pre-existing mental health struggles, rendering her currently unfit for employment.
Despite her prior active work life, the family now faces financial hardships due to the challenging circumstances. Introducing an Air Fryer into their lives made a significant impact.
This appliance offers a straightforward cooking solution, enabling the family to prepare healthier and more balanced meals. Moreover, it presents an economical alternative, alleviating the financial strain they currently endure”.

Tree of Life

Tree of Life are a Manchester based reuse charity set up to support the community of Wythenshawe who are on low or no income. They provide valuable services to their local community including a community café, IT sessions, friendship groups and their furniture reuse shop.

Established in 1984, the charity has been serving their community in response to the needs of the deprived community in which Tree of Life is based. It is estimated that 40,000 people were supported by their services in 2023 alone including 102,000 food parcels provided through their foodbank.

In February of this year, one of Tree of Life’s regular food bank customers was unable to cook warm, nutritious meals for themselves as their cooker had broken and they didn’t have funds to replace it. Thanks to HYSapientia’s donation, Tree of Life were able to pass on a low cost, energy efficient, brand-new appliance to someone who really needed it.

Jennie Goodwin, Operations Manager at Tree of Life said; “Thank you for the donation of air fryers that have helped struggling families in our community. The remaining appliances were sold within two hours generating income to support future donations of essential items”.

In March 2024,
HySapientia and AP Taylor;
Supported 10 households
Saved those households on average £1,620
Diverted 57kg of items that may have gone to landfill
