Earth Day 2025: Viridor renews long-term support for Reuse Network to deliver social value and sustainability efforts

Posted on the 22nd April 2025

Viridor, one of the UK’s leading resource recovery and recycling companies, has reaffirmed its commitment to the reuse sector by extending its strategic partnership with the charity Reuse Network for the fourth consecutive year. As part of a £75,000 package of funding through its We Share Community Fund, Viridor has allocated £35,000 to Reuse Network to further champion reuse as a key solution in the UK’s circular economy. Viridor continues to to invest in community-led sustainability, with funding also extended to Library of Things and Sheltersuit UK.

Reuse Network supports a network of charitable organisations across the country who are each dedicated to reuse. Each year the network diverts millions of household items from landfill, helping to reduce carbon emissions and assisting low-income households by giving them access to affordable goods.

The funding will enable Reuse Network to expand digital support for its members, help the organisation run a media campaign and roadshows, and advance their research capabilities. This strategic investment builds on three years of impactful collaboration, helping to raise the profile of the reuse sector and influence behavior change across communities.

The announcement comes during Earth Week, a week where communities across the globe demonstrate their support for environmental protection. Launched in 1970 as a day of protest, the movement has grown to engage around 1 billion people annually.

Every year, millions of items are sent to landfill sites across the country, and many of these items could be reused and provided to people in crisis.

Despite a challenging landscape, the reuse sector continues to deliver vital support, ensuring that everyone has access to affordable household items to enable them to create a sustainable home. Last year, the reuse sector as a whole reused 2.55 million furniture and electrical items, helping 1.5 million households save £321.2 million compared to buying these items new. By reusing these items, the charity reuse sector prevented 86,127 tonnes of products from being wasted which saved 92,566 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Craig Anderson, CEO of Reuse Network commented:

“We are incredibly grateful for Viridor’s continued support as our strategic partner for the fourth year running. Together, we’ve raised awareness, created new opportunities, and empowered communities to embrace sustainability. Viridor’s support will allow us to further strengthen the sector – helping more people create sustainable homes while significantly reducing environmental impact.”

Edita Adamcikova, ESG Director, Viridor commented:

“At Viridor, we are deeply committed to creating a world where nothing goes to waste, and our partnership with Reuse Network exemplifies this vision. By supporting reuse initiatives, we’re not only reducing environmental impact but also empowering communities to access affordable, sustainable solutions. This fourth year of collaboration reflects the tangible difference we’ve made together, and we’re excited to continue driving positive change for people, the planet, and the circular economy.”
