Buy Nothing New Day returns on Friday 28 November!
Our annual campaign offers an ethical alternative to Black Friday, encouraging people to support their local reuse charities on one of the biggest shopping days of the year by choosing pre-loved instead of brand new.
Did you know?
- According to a 2025 survey, over 22 million pieces of furniture are thrown away each year in the UK, and a quarter of UK adults replace a piece of their furniture at least once a year.
- It takes around 1000X more CO2 to make a new piece of furniture compared to refurbishing an old piece.
- Research by WRAP found that buying used could save households £2.37 billion, while avoiding 62,255 tonnes of carbon emissions (the equivalent of taking over 28,000 cars off the road for a year).
An ethical alternative to Black Friday
Now in its eighth year, Buy Nothing New Day shines a light on the power of reuse and the charities making a real difference for people, planet, and pocket.
In 2023 alone, the reuse sector gave 2.6 million furniture and electrical items a new lease of life. By choosing reused instead of new, low-income households saved £335.3 million, while 96,643 tonnes of CO₂ emissions were avoided.
Every day, Reuse Network members divert household items from landfill and into the homes of people who need them – helping to reduce poverty, cut waste, and build brighter futures for those most isolated in our communities. Find out more about what we do.
Make a stand for second hand this Black Friday
This Black Friday, take a stand against throwaway culture. Every purchase you make from a reuse charity supports their vital work in communities across the UK.
